let’s go to the movies!

Posted in: boys, kids, planner

If you follow me on Pinterest you likely saw a whole stream of backyard movie pins.  For Middle-Man’s birthday this year we decided to show a movie in the backyard!  He loved the idea and I loved all the fun details I got to think of!  .

For the food I had a hot-dog bar, mac-n-cheese cakes, fruit, and apple-sauce on the go (the new favorite snack in my house!)

I have come to rely on our local Market for the cupcake-cake!  They always do such a great job with my vision.  Having a cupcake cake is such an easy alternative to cake.  And kids seem to love the hand-held deliciousness!

For the kids favors I bought flashlights and batteries at the Dollar Store.  I also bought stickers at the Target toll aisle.  Each child got their own flashlight to decorate with stickers!  They liked this for a few minutes!  I think they would have liked it more if it had been dark outside to play with them.  And, no I don’t have any pictures — oops!

For the main attraction I created a snack table.  Our local market sells four square containers (one square sectioned into four smaller squares — kind of like a lunchable)  I got enough ofthem for all of our short guests.  Their choices were popcorn, gummy bears, M&Ms, mini oreos and mini teddy grahams.  They got to fill their own snack tray for the big show!  I think this was their favorite part!

I used a white sheet folded over.  We had old red curtains from an old baby room.  I lightly nailed to them to the top of the shed just under the roof.  Once the sun set behind the shed it provided the perfect amount of shade for viewing the movie. There were black balloons on either side of the “screen” but they popped after some non-suspecting four-year-old had batting practice with them!

We have since decided that we are buying our own projector, this was such fun!

The grownups want to watch football games and have fires in the backyard this fall!  I’m so in for that!!

Awesome idea for a party. Your post made me miss children’s parties for a second then I remembered how I used to feel after they were over. You need a month to recover.
